The ancient art of yoga appeared to halve the number of episodes of a potentially dangerous irregular heartbeat known as atrial fibrillation also improved quality of life, lowering levels of the anxiety and depression

In a small preliminary study, the ancient art of yoga appeared to halve the number of episodes of a potentially dangerous irregular heartbeat known as atrial fibrillation.
Three sessions of yoga a week also improved quality of life, lowering levels of the anxiety and depression which often plagues patients with this condition, according to research to be presented Saturday at the annual meeting of the American College of Cardiology in New Orleans.
"These are exciting results," said Dr. Raul Mitrani, director of the cardiac rhythm device clinic at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Although it didn't cure atrial fibrillation, he added, it did seem to cut the number of "a-fib" episodes.

Prior research had shown other heart benefits of yoga, such as lower blood pressure and cholesterol and more elastic arteries, but this is the first study looking specifically at atrial fibrillation, said the authors, from Mid-America Cardiology at the University of Kansas Hospital.
Atrial fibrillation, which affects millions of older Americans, is an irregular heartbeat that greatly raises odds for clotting and stroke. Treatments tend to be either invasive surgery (to try to eliminate the abnormality at its origin) or medications that carry side effects. Some lifestyle tactics are also helpful, Mitrani said, such as moderating alcohol and caffeine to reduce triggers.
In the new trial, 49 patients between the ages of 25 and 70 who had atrial fibrillation participated in a supervised yoga program, conducted 45 minutes a week, three times a week for three months. Sessions involved breathing exercises, various positions (asanas), meditation and relaxation. The participants were also given an educational DVD and encouraged to practice daily at home.
During the three months of yoga practice, participants experienced an average of 2.1 episodes of atrial fibrillation as compared to an average of 3.8 episodes occurring the three months prior to the start of classes, when they were exercising but not yet doing yoga.
"Advanced yogis for a long time have disproven the idea that heart rate that automatically determined by physiological need," noted Dr. Scott Shurmur, director of preventive cardiology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. "We know that meditation, yoga etc, really do provide some conscious altering of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. This is the first time I've seen results on atrial fibrillation and its tangible evidence."
"Absolutely, yoga can play a role in the management of atrial fibrillation," says Dr. Louis Teichholz, medical director of the cardiac service and chief of complementary medicine at Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey, who points to the breathing component of yoga -- especially Prana yoga -- as the key ingredient.
"If they had studied heart rate variability, they would have shown this decreases sympathetic nervous system activity," he said. "That comes with fear and fright. A sudden burst of adrenaline in a susceptible individual will trigger arrhythmia."
A second study being presented at the meeting backed up the value of exercise in general for heart health.
Texas researchers report that a lifetime of regular exercise keeps the human heart flexible and strong, well over retirement age.
In fact, long-term exercise actually preserves heart muscle mass, keeping it at the same level as a sedentary person aged 25 to 34, the team estimated.
In the study, people over the age of 65 who reported having exercised consistently over their lifetime actually managed to preserve left ventricular mass. The left ventricle of the heart is involved in pumping and normally gets smaller as you age.
The folks in this study had exercised six or seven times a week as adults but the researchers, from the University of Texas-Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, believe that getting people in the midrange of their life -- 45 to 60 -- could help prevent heart failure and other cardiac problems which tend to appear as you get older.
Experts stress that data presented at medical meetings has not undergone the rigorous peer review that is conducted when research is published in medical journals and should be considered preliminary.

Fasting for 24 hours may cut your risk of developing heart disease and diabetes.

LONDON: It seems your grandmother was right  fasting for a day is good for your health. And, now a study says that going without food for 24 hours may cut your risk of developing heart disease and diabetes.

Researchers have based their findings on an analysis of health and habits of over 200 residents in Utah. X-ray scans revealed narrowing of arteries in 75% of those who didn't fast. Clogged arteries affected 63% of those who said they often skipped meals.

Decrease in protein levels in kids a sign that the child will develop diabetes.

A study has found that the decreasing blood levels of a protein that helps control inflammation could be a sign that a child will develop diabetes.
Georgia Health Sciences University researchers are looking at blood levels of interleukin-1 receptor antagonist, or IL-1ra, in children because their genes put them at risk for type 1 diabetes.
They are also looking at diabetic mice missing IL-1ra to see how the protein deficiency affects immune function and destruction of insulin-producing islet beta cells.
“We want to know if we can use IL-1ra levels to identify children who will soon develop the disease, then use IL-1 inhibitors to prevent it,” Dr. Sharad Purohit, biochemist in the GHSU Center for Biotechnology and Genomic Medicine, said.
IL-1ra helps reduce inflammation and Purohit’s preliminary evidence suggests that low levels predict inflammation is increasing and the immune system is going to attack insulin-producing cells.
Il-1 inhibitors already are used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, where inflammation destroys joints. Clinical trials are underway in type 1 diabetes and to see if an inhibitor can halt the islet cell destruction that occurs in type 1 diabetes as well.
Dr. Jin-Xiong She, Director of the Center for Biotechnology and Genomic Medicine said while acknowledging the inhibitor may improve type 1diabetes outcome, GHSU scientists want to know if it can also be used preventively.
IL-1ra competes with its counterpart IL-1beta for the IL-1 receptor. In type 1 diabetes, inflammation-promoting IL-1beta appears to be winning.
“It’s a balance; it’s a competition. There is always a balance between beta cell production and destruction and any process that can change the balance can push you to disease or help you recover from it,” she said.
“In this case, we believe that knowing the balance is off can actually help prevent disease,” she added.

10 tips for guaranteed weight loss that will set your weight straight, and help you adopt some really healthy, weight-friendly habits for life.

Decide how much weight you need to lose - Most people start their weight loss journey by claiming to be xyz kilos overweight. This isn't a healthy way to project or aim for weight loss. Calculate your desired weight against your height by using reliable methods like the BMI, and set a healthy weight loss target. This is often half the battle won.

Time management - This is quite often overlooked. Decide which part of your day will be dedicated to exercise, when in the week you will stock up on groceries, and when you will do the cooking - all within your current work and home life routine. If you don't do this now, your days will be rushed and unplanned, and you won't be able to sustain your weight loss efforts.

Stock your kitchen - Keep your house well-stocked with fruits, vegetables, healthy meats, grains, cereals, spices, and flavourers. Follow our tricks to healthy cooking, cooking vegetables for the week, and low-fat cooking posts to understand how best you can stock your kitchen with healthy and delicious ingredients. All of this will go into helping the next step - cooking healthy meals at home.

Eat healthy homecooked meals - Whether it's you who's cooking, a family member, or house help, ensure that every one practises healthy cooking methods, and ingredients. Ask any person who's lost weight the healthy way, and you will always hear about how healthy homecooked meals were a big reason behind it. Use less oil, low salt, fresh produce, and you'll start seeing results in no time.

Start a cardio + weights workout - A healthy weight loss programme is incomplete without a good exercise routine, and weight training mixed with cardio is the best way to lose weight. Of course, variations and forms exist, but any workout that stresses on muscle tone and increased heart rate will always help you lose weight and keep it off. You can either start a home workout today, or rely on gyms for fitness training.

Alter your snacking habits - At Health Me Up, we have several healthy snacking ideas for you. Set those French fries aside, skip that aerated drink, and ban those unhealthy deep fried samosas. Explore the healthy snack world and you will find several appetisers, party snacks, movie snacks and meal accompaniments that'll satisfy every craving of yours.

Have at least one active hobby - It isn't sufficient to rely on just 30 to 60 minutes of physical activity per day. Moving from bed to office chair, and back to bed, isn't a healthy way to live. Buy a motion sensor gaming console that lets you enjoy social games with friends and family, plan weekend trips, clean your house once a week, dance, play sports, the list is endless. Get out of the coffee shop and dining table rut, and you'll have fun along with the healthy weight loss.

Find a solution to combat stress - As we pointed out in our post about stress and weight loss, stress is always detrimental to healthy weight loss in the long run. Find ways to combat stress and you'll soon realise that your diet and exercise aren't sabotaged anymore, and that you truly do see results. Look at yoga, meditation, deep breathing exercises, or simple hobbies like reading to fight stress.

Drink plenty of water - You've known that your body relies heavily on water for all important bodily functions, and yet you skimp on drinking adequate quantities of water every day. Well, it's time to stop that. Check out some exciting ways to make water interesting and you'll be packing it away in no time. Do not forget to carry a water bottle to your workout, and take a few sips after every 2-3 minutes of exercise.

Plan healthy vacations - Why go all the way with healthy weight loss, when one tiny vacation will just come along and topple it all? Healthy vacations aren't impossible. Take a look at how you can eat smart on a holiday, and then at bodyweight workouts that you can carry with you wherever you go, to understand how to holiday right. Above all, remember that these are lifelong habits that'll help you stay fit forever and not short term weight loss quickfixes.

The levels of five amino acids in the blood could predict diabetes risk 10 yrs before first symptoms appear.

LONDON: Researchers from the Massachusetts General Hospital
(MGH) have suggested that measuring the levels of small molecules in
the blood could predict diabetes risk as much as a decade before first
symptoms appear.

They said the levels of five amino acids not
only indicated increased diabetes risk in a general population but also
could differentiate, among individuals with traditional risk factors
such as obesity, those most likely to actually develop diabetes.

"These findings raise the possibility that, in selected individuals,
these measurements could identify those at highest risk of developing
diabetes so that early preventive measures could be instituted," said
lead author Thomas Wang.

The researchers found that elevations in
five amino acids — isoleucine, leucine, valine, tyrosine and
phenylalanine — were significantly associated with the later development
of type 2 diabetes.

Health Benefits of Banana in Anemia, Blood Pressure, Student Brain Power, Constipation, Depression, Hangovers, Heart-burn, Morning Sickness, Bone Builder, Ulcers, Fevers, SAD- mood enhancer, Smoking and bananas are not fattening

Research studies have proven that eating two bananas
provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout.
Not the only great thing about bananas though! They do
not lose nutritional content after being picked as do other
fruits and vegetables with thinner skin!

My grandmother's saying, "If it tastes good it can't be
good for you," doesn't hold water with the banana case…
Studies have also found that bananas can overcome
and/or prevent a number of illnesses and conditions, making
it a great idea to include them in your daily diet.

1) Anemia: Bananas are high in iron and can stimulate
the production of hemoglobin in the blood therefore helping
in iron deficiency anemia. No constipation when eating
bananas as with iron supplements!

2) Blood Pressure: The doctors' I worked with would
tell the patient to eat a banana every day! Why?
Because they are high in potassium yet low in salt.
That advice was usually to people taking blood
pressure medications, since those medications help
to deplete the system of that most important mineral
potassium. People with low Potassium in the body
creates the climate for heart attack and/or other diseases...
Doctors in India discovered just two bananas a day
can reduce blood pressure by 10% in just one week.
This backs up a previous American study showing
that eating five bananas a day was 50% as effective
as taking prescription medication to reduce hypertension.
The US Food and Drug Administration now allows the
banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's
ability to reduce the risk of high blood pressure and
stroke.

3) Student Brain Power: A study done with the
help of 200 students at a Twickenham England, (Middlesex)
school showed; by eating bananas at breakfast, break
and lunch boosted their brain power making for better
exam results. Research has shown that, again the
mineral potassium-packed fruit can further learning
by making students more alert.

4) Constipation: Bananas are high in fiber thereby
including bananas in the diet can help restore
normal bowel action, assisting in overcoming
constipation without resorting to harsh laxatives.

5) Depression: Bananas contain tryptophan, a
type of protein that the body converts into serotonin
known to help you relax, thereby improving mood
and helping to create a happier feeling. This was
been proven when done with depressed patients.

6) Hangovers: Alcohol depletes the body of several
minerals and also dehydrates the body and one of
the quickest hangover cures could be eating a
banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The
banana shake calms the stomach replaces the
potassium lost and the milk helps to rehydrate the
body while calming the nerves with tryptophan...

7) Heart-burn: Bananas have a natural antacid
calming effect in the body. You might try eating
a banana next time you suffer from heart-burn,
and calm the gas!

8) Morning Sickness: Prevent that morning sickness
by snacking on bananas between meals helping to
keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.
Even if you forget to eat them before and you wake
up with morning sickness, eat a banana to calm the
stomach!

9) Bone builder: Bananas are high in phosphorus,
needed for bone development, calcium, and potassium.
They are particularly rich in vitamin C and contain
significant amounts of several other vitamins such
as vitamin A. Bananas do not contain fat and have
zero cholesterol.

10) PMS: Eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains
regulates blood glucose levels and tryptophan the
calming soothing chemical, which can affect your
mood.

11) Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food
against intestinal disorders because of its soft
texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that
can be eaten without distress in over-chronic ulcer
cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces
irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.

12) Fevers: Many cultures see bananas as a 'cooling'
fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional
temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand,
for example, pregnant women eat bananas to
ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

13) Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas
can help SAD sufferers because they contain the
natural mood enhancer, tryptophan.

14) Smoking: Bananas can also help people trying to
give up smoking, as the high levels of Vitamin C, A1,
B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and
magnesium found in them, help the body recover
from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

Contrary to popular belief, bananas are not fattening.

Eating tip! The more yellow the fruit the easier to
digest and the more nutrients!

Consume at least one cup of coffee everyday to cut 25% probability of a heart attack esp in women

It has been scientifically found that women who consume at least one cup
of coffee everyday have a good heart. Coffee cuts 25% probability of a
heart attack. This research work has been done by the Swedish
scientists.

The researchers have notified that those women who do not consume coffee are at an increased risk of having a heart attack.

However, the researchers have also concluded that the reports were preliminary and one should not make any changes related to coffee drinking habits.

For the analysis purpose, the team of scientists headed by Larsson collected sample data for over 34,670 women aged 49 to 83.

"Results from our study in
women showed that consumption of 1 to 5 cups of coffee per day was
associated with a 22 to 25 percent lower risk of stroke, compared with
consumption of less than 1 cup a day”, quoted by the lead researcher
Susanna Larsson, from the National Institute of Environmental Medicine
at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm.

She also claimed that even consuming small amount of coffee helps in decreasing the risk of having a heart attack.

The findings of the study were published in the March 10 edition of the magazine Stroke.

The ECG Tread Mill Test commonly used to identify people who are prone to heart attacks is not a fool-proof procedure to know the condition of heart especially among high-risk professionals like pilots.

The
established criteria for positive Tread Mill Test (TMT) needs
revision in order to avoid treating healthy persons as heart
patients, its author Colonel M J Jacob, head of the department
of Nuclear Medicine, Army Hospital Research and Refferal said. The study has been published in the Journal of
Associations of Physicians in India. With increased prevalence of coronary artery disease,
people especiall the young are anxious to find out about their
risk of suffering from a heart attack in near future and
hence, undergo TMT to clear the doubt.ECG TMT is one of the main tests routinely used to
detect the adequacy of the blood supply to cardiac muscles
during rest as well as at times of higher stress. All those who test positive for ECG TMT are put
through further tests and procedures."A total of 152 people including airline pilots,
millitary personnels making it to higher altitudes,
submariners and executives who reported positive for ECG TMT
were analysed in order to ensure their cardiac fitness in
stress conditions."It was found that the test grossly over-estimated the
presence of cardiac problems and put healthy persons through
unnecessary tests and procedures," Colonel Jacob said.Chest discomfort could have been due to other minor
problems unrelated to heart like acidity, chest wall muscle
main etc, he said.He said, "ECG TMT is one of the very common
investigations being used in the periodic medical examination
of high risk professionals."It's time we revise the test criterias. It's time we
revise the test criterias in order stop person from being
unduly being subjected to coronary angiography," he said. PTI

Back pain cause and most effective steps to avoid and treat back pain with these remedies

It is no fun to have a back pain, but your not alone, millions
of people living on this globe have some form of back pain. Most
times their is a solution for your back pain, but there is one
thing that should always do if your back pain doesn't go away
after a few days, you should visit your doctor or another
medical professional to take a look or do some further
investigation. You don't want to make it worse by not knowing
what the reason for the pain could be.

Your doctor will now what to do against the pain in your back
once they know what the cause is. There are many types of
remedies for back pain and you should trust your doctor in
knowing the best solution. A doctor is trained to take these
type of decisions by looking at the possible cause and then
deciding which treatment will be the best for your back pain.

The remedies for Back Pain:

When asked about the remedy people take, when they are
confronted with a

more permanent back pain for the first, most
people will tell that they take some form of medication. Often a
non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs is prescribed by a doctor
or a muscle relaxant so the muscles (if that is the cause of the
back pain) can relax and stop the tension.

Physical therapy is the next step if the drugs or muscle
relaxers on their own don't work or are not showing the expected
results. Often the physical therapy will start while still
taking the prescribed drugs. The therapist will have a choice of
techniques to choose from, some of them are ultrasound, ice or
heat and even electrical stimulation. And while applying the
techniques the therapist will look at the results so he can
pinpoint which treatment will work the best for the patients
particular back pain problem.

With electrical stimulation a weak electrical current is sent
from a unit through the skin in to nerve pathways. Although this
does not work for everyone or all kinds of back pain it is
becoming very popular and it can be tried to see if there are
positive results.

The last resort for back pain treatment is and should always
be, surgery. The percentage of people with back pain who can
only be helped with surgery is very low. A type of surgery where
a part of the vertebra, the spinal column bony part, is removed,
this is called lacminectomy and laminotomy. Another surgical
option is intradiscal electrothermal therapy, with this option a
needle is inserted into the disc through a catheder.

Your doctor is the person you should talk to when it comes
making a decision what treatment you should get for your back
pain. That's most important advice anyone can give you, when
your back pain takes longer than it normally does after a day of
hard work you should consult with your doctor. He or she can
give you the best advice on the procedure you should follow.

Eat to lose weight , the best way to loose weight without any food dieting

Getting rid of unwanted extra pounds is never easy but many of
us make is harder than it really is. Skipping meals and
drastically cutting calories will yield temporary results but
you can achieve long term weight loss if you choose a slower
approach. Basically, you need to eat to lose weight.

I know you're probably thinking that eating is what added the
extra pounds in the first place. However, the kinds of foods
along with a lack of exercise are more of a source of trouble
than the actual act of eating. When you eat to lose weight you
will find that you can take in more food and feel satisfied
throughout the day.

So how do you eat to lose weight? The first thing you want to
do is slow down. You are more likely to overeat if you scarf
your meals down too quickly. You have to give your stomach
enough time to tell your brain that it is full. I know it sounds
silly but it does take time to process this information.

Choose whole foods. When you eat to lose weight, you are best
off picking foods that are not processed. The more stuff that is
done to the food, the more fattening it is likely to be. Natural
foods are best and they

take a little longer to eat. Raw veggies
and fruits have to be chewed well and this takes more time than
ingesting a piece of cheesecake.

You should not only eat to lose weight but drink to drop pounds
as well. You have probably heard about the eight glasses of
water each day so I won't lecture. Drinking a nice, hot cup of
tea can be as satisfying as a couple of cookies but it won't add
the pounds.

It is important to remember that many beverages can work
against your weight loss efforts. If you eat to lose weight but
drink as if you don't have a care in the world, you probably
won't see very good results. Instead of drinking a glass of
apple juice, just drink the apple. The sugar content in the
juice is really concentrated and it's almost like eating three
or four apples.

In order to curb your appetite you might want to consider
eating a handful of almonds about 20 minutes before your next
meal. This is a great way to eat to lose weight because your
brain is being told that you are receiving nutrients. Remember
that you need to nourish your body in order to keep the pounds
at bay.

Premium healthcare to be costlier with new service tax, the total sum of the hospital bill including the cost of medicines and consumables will increase by 10%

Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee proposed amendments in service tax
and extended it more areas. Earlier, 117 segments were under service
tax, now the unchanged rate of 10% tax on services will be levied on 320
more which is amajor concern for the hospitals coming up in the
country.

The amendment has been termed 'ambiguous, impractical and illogical'
by experts in the healthcare industry as it will make healthcare all the
more costlier than it is today.

As per amendments in the budget,
service tax has been widened to cover some categories of hospitals and
diagnostic tests. AC hospitals with more than 25 beds have been brought
under the ambit of service tax. Healthcare industry experts have termed
this as an 'improper' step.

Dr Milan Chag, a leading cardiologist
and managing director of The Heart Care Clinic and Care Institute of
Medical Sciences, said,

"The imposition of new service tax for
treatment in any air-conditioned hospital with a bed capacity of more
than 25 means adding 10% to patients' total hospital bill. This is
illogical and improper. Ultimately, the end consumers, i.e. patients,
suffer as this will automatically raise their bill by 10%," said Chag.

In
most cases, of the total bill, 50-70% cost is of medicines and
consumables and these cannot be defined as 'services'. However, with
this additional new tax, the total sum of the hospital bill including
the cost of medicines and consumables will increase by 10% which is an
unfair hike, explained Dr Praful Pawar, CEO, Apollo Hospitals.

Industry
sources say that the finance minister needs to think hard on this
proposed amendment. The government must modify it and exclude medicines
and consumables from the total bill, say healthcare industry experts.

Pankaj
Patel, chairman and managing director, Zydus Cadila, said, "Overall,
the budget is a stability-oriented one with thrust on infrastructure and
allocations for healthcare sector. However, the new service tax would
hamper the growth of the healthcare industry."

Echoing a similar
view, Dr Vikram Shah, director, Shalby Hospital said, "This proposed new
tax would burden the patients. And to avoid the increase in the costs,
the healthcare service providers would not prefer to fall under the
organised sector. This amendment if not modified would kill the growing
segment of healthcare industry."

Diabetes Complications and causes of diabetes and steps to avoid diabetes

Complications related to diabetes can include heart and kidney disease, nerve damage, blindness and circulatory problems that can lead to wounds that will not heal and limb amputations.

Sadly, 1/3 of diabetics are undiagnosed and have no idea they are going to have liver failure or kidney failure or go blind or die thinking they have the flu or all four!

The way conventional medicine treat diabetes isn’t treating diabetes and prolonging it. diabetes can be reversed if a person wants to do it! Diabetes isn’t a sugar problem but malnutrition of the body’s organs.

Two causes of diabetes are;

#1 - When the liver becomes overwhelmed with toxins, such as toxic colors, toxic preservatives, chemicals from prescription and or over-the-counter drugs it can no longer support the pancreas and therefore the pancreas shuts down and needs cleansing.

#2 – The body becomes so full of fat that it smothers all the organs then the pancreas fails again.

Here are a few facts to keep you from becoming one of those diabetic statistics!

1. Watch your diet. Eat as much whole foods as possible

every day! Do not indulge in fast or prepackaged prepared

foods! Of course I know you are not going to do that as

fast foods or prepackaged prepared foods are too easy,

at least limit them to once or twice a month.

2. Keep your minerals balanced to help  every organ in your body function correctly while keeping a healthy

weight. If the whole world would get into the balanced minerals supplement daily there obesity and overweight people would be rare rather than 60% that exists now. Being overweight by more than 20 pounds sets you up for Diabetes.

3. Keep your Immune System Healthy! Just about

everyone ignores 75% to 80% of their immune system

because they have no idea where it is or what to do about

keeping it healthy. Where is it?
The  digestive Tract!

4. Do a liver and pancreas cleanse as often as needed!

Those living with toxic air, bathing or drinking or

cooking with chlorinated water and/or use toxic skin

care products need to do liver and pancreas cleanse

at least twice a year and every three months would be

best. For the person who eats a lot of prepackaged or

canned foods need three times a year minimum.

5. Eat organic foods as much as possible as they are

free of pesticides, fertilizer and GMO’s, this will limit

a toxic liver. Those chemicals build up in the body and

create all kinds of illness and disease in otherwise

healthy people.

6. Drink, bath and cook with pure filtered/purified

water! Our water systems are poison to us. Read

about the  waterways
dangers!

7. Stay away from prescription drugs or over-the-

counter drugs. Every manmade drug (NSAIDS,

prescription of every kind) has a warning “liver

must be check periodically” or words to that effect,

on every single manmade drug! Fact; drug-induced

liver injury is the most common reason for the

withdrawal from the market of an already FDA

approved drug.

8. Exercise, exercise, exercise! That doesn't mean

you need to pay for a gym membership! A simple brisk

walk works!

The above is for those who have not been diagnosed

as a diabetic but if you are already a diabetic try

natural alternative treating to become diabetic free! Read

about one of our most severe cases

diabetic-free for a few years now. And now

that you can be just like Richard!

Be smart with your health!

How to get the right Health Insurance? : Choosing the Right Health Insurance

I need health insurance, what should I do?

If you are asking this question to yourself, then you are doing the right thing.  It is very important for you and your family to get a health insurance cover, since you know that a single incidence of major illness can leave you bankrupt.  With the economy in a bad shape and the recession looming large, there have been huge layoffs.  Millions are losing their jobs and also the health cover provided by the employer.  This definitely is a great cause for worry and the health insurance premiums are also very high.  If you plan properly, you can still opt for a quality health plan that is affordable and can cover your major health expenses.

You would be aware that initially all the good work of finding a quality health insurance firm was done by the human resources department of the companies.  But now the scenario is entirely different.  Now in many offices, the employers pay only a marginal sum for the health cover or they do not pay at all.  This means that you now need to do all the work which would ideally include identifying the right health insurance company, choosing the correct health plan, checking all the terms and conditions, seeking the correct tenure, work out the premiums and plan the finances.

Online Health Insurance Quotes

One of the best ways to seek a quality health insurance plan is to go in for online health insurance quotes.  The advantage of seeking an online quote is that there is no excess paper work, you wont be bothered by too many executives pleading to buy their plan and above all, you can do all the work from the comfort of your home.  You may also discuss the various options with all the other family members and seek their advice.  In the case of online quotes, you just need to fill in all the basic details and the best health plan is presented right before you.

Choosing the Right Health Insurance

When you opt for a health plan, you must keep certain things in mind.  Always opt for a group health insurance plan as it is less expensive and there are plenty of benefits associated with it.  Along with your family members, you may also include your friends and office colleagues.  The main advantage of a group health insurance plan is that even if one of them is afflicted with a pre-medical condition, the health insurance company does not take this in to account, and all the members are properly insured.

When you opt for a health insurance plan, you need to make sure that it covers all aspects of maternity.  Ideally, it should cover all the pregnancy costs which include all the tests before and after the pregnancy.  You need to plan your finances well.  You may come across many health plans which offer attractive benefits and free services.  You need to be very careful because many may turn out to be fake.  Therefore, you need to check all the facts before you opt for the right health insurance plan.

Walking For Weight Loss:Tips and Tricks to Burn More Calories After weight-loss surgery and important point to consider before morning walk or jogging

After weight-loss surgery, your long-term success will be

determined by your commitment to exercise and healthy eating.

While your diet will incorporate a wide variety of foods, nearly

all of your exercise – regardless of your health – will begin

with one simple activity: walking. Though walking is often taken

for granted, a deeper understanding of the activity can yield

remarkable weight-loss results.

Here are several ways you can

turn a seemingly simple activity into an effective

calorie-burning workout.

Talk to your doctor

Before you begin a regular regimen of walking or any other form

of exercise, you should consult your physician. Your doctor will

be able to tell you what types of activities are best for your

health and help you structure a healthy walking schedule that

fits your needs.

Use a pedometer

A pedometer is one of the best tools you can use to both

encourage and organize your walking habits. This incredibly

affordable device will keep track of your steps throughout the

day, allowing you to see how your daily habits affect your

movement. After your competitive impulses kick in, you will want

to top your number of steps each day. After remaining committed

over time, you will also notice your walking totals increasing

hand-in-hand with your weight loss numbers.

Keep a journal

The easiest way to keep track of your steps and compare your

daily results is the creation of a journal. Beyond a catalog of

your walks and the steps counted on your pedometer, you can use

your journal to document your exercise, meals and weight-loss

results. As weight-loss surgeons often recommend keeping a

journal after surgery to encourage healthy eating habits, adding

your walking and exercise results in one convenient book will

help you simplify your entire routine. http://hallosushant.blogspot.com/

Dress the part

When getting ready to walk or exercise, it can be very helpful

to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. By wearing garments

that promote healthy movement, you will be more inspired to push

on during your walks. More importantly, you should always wear

supportive athletic shoes when exercising or walking. Failing to

wear the right shoes could not only end your walk early, it

could lead to injury and potentially the end of your healthy

routine. And don't forget to include sunscreen as part of your

walking attire!

Work on your posture

Much as the right pair of shoes will help you avoid injury,

practicing good posture while walking can allow you to extend

your workouts and limit your downtime. To avoid back pain and

make the most of your walking, focus on standing up straight

without arching your back or leaning forward. Next, keep your

chin up and try to suck in your stomach and behind. Lastly,

relax your shoulders by shrugging and letting your arms fall to

your sides naturally.

Move your arms

While you are walking, swinging your arms will help you

maintain your good posture and burn a few extra calories along

the way. You might also notice that using your arms while

walking can propel you forward, helping you maximize your

workout and hit your weight-loss targets.

Get warmed up

Before setting out on a walk or beginning an exercise routine,

you should always warm up to prolong your energy and prevent

injury. Prior to walking, you should perform some simple

movements that allow you to stretch your arms and legs. As you

merely want to prepare your muscles for walking, your warm up

does not need to be strenuous.

Cool yourself down

After you have finished walking, you should stretch again to

ward off the pains and cramps that often follow exercise. More

importantly, a healthy stretching regimen – both before and

after walking – will allow you to maintain your exercise

schedule for the long term. Obviously, if pain or injuries

prevent you from walking or exercising, you will burn fewer

calories and find it far more difficult to meet your weight-loss

goals.

When thinking about the exercise required to meet weight-loss

goals, it is important to remember that your activities don't

need to be complicated or difficult to perform. In fact, the

tips outlined here will allow you to build an entire exercise

regimen out of nothing but walking. When the time comes to try

new sports and activities, you can then use all of the skills

you developed while walking to take both your weight loss and

healthy lifestyle to the next level.

Healthy Alternatives for Junk Foods like chocolate candy bar, chocolate donut, or a piece of chocolate cake, Deep fried and breaded chicken fingers, fries and burger

Because a fitness professional, I ' m always agitated ( and
puzzled ) with the conflict people seem to have eclipse losing
weight, yet they refuse to control eating junk food. An
interesting device I have noticed because my multitudinous years
helping people to lose weight is that nearly every single person
that has told me that they are " attempting " to lose weight,
partly always has their house filled stifle plenary sorts of
junk food instead of whole unprocessed natural food.

It is not uncommon for people to tell me that they are
herculean really hard to lose weight, but I leave still notice
boxes of nature jacks and fruity pebbles on their counters,
cakes, candies, and long green fame their cupboard, and sodas or
syrupy juices in their refrigerator.

So the issue that always stumps me is that if all of these
people honestly imperative to lose weight so bad, why character
the world do most people pacific retain their houses filled with
junk foods instead of healthy food?

Interestingly, the answer usually is that they do not want to
shell out upping their favorite foods since they image that
eating this junk food allows them to " live a infinitesimal "...
if you ask me, it sounds more cognate dying a little disguise
each subsistence!

My take on it is that eating junk foods has nothing at unitary
to do with enjoying your lifeblood... In reality, when you
donate up junk foods you actually enjoy sparkle more considering
you feel better and are more energetic every day. In supplement,
getting into fitter habitus by not eating junk food can
obviously help look up the way your body looks ( and therefrom
increases your confidence ), thereby making you enjoy growth
matching more.

One thing that many people fail to realize is that eating
healthy does not retain to mean eating bland and boring food.
Instead, when you learn to enjoy natural unprocessed food and
start exploring all of the varieties of natural food that this
planet has to offer us, you learn that you can take to the
natural flavors of real foods more than overly processed
aggressive tastes that are so usual hold back excessively sweet
and salty junk food.

An exemplar of this is that the other day I required an
unsweetened icebox tea while out on the reaching, but uncut that
the store had available was these bottles of heavily honeyed
iced tea. Well, I have not bought a fully toothsome arctic
carousing in probably at least a few dotage now... I have
actually gotten used to drinking unsweetened raw tea and have
scholarly to appreciate the natural taste of reception without
needing sugar or mismated sweeteners.

When I drank this bottled sweet jig, I almost gagged because it
was so like sugar luscious, it was positively revolting.

A uniform example... I used to need a lot of sugar in coffee,
but after a slowly reducing the amount of sugar I would use in
coffe, I can immediately actually drink black coffee and enjoy
the natural flavor of it off-course needing sweeteners (
although I seldom drink coffee ).

These are just a couple examples of how once you start
appreciating the natural flavors of real food, you find that you
no longer need the best - aggressive salty, sugary, or
artificial flavors that have been ingrained juice us by the food
companies and exhaustive of the junk food they push on us.

My mind is that everyone should actually dig what they eat, and
can do it without eating overly processed junk food... Actually,
people are much surprised to recognize that a fit-out of the
foods that they think are junk food, I keep healthy alternatives
that they never thought of.

A few examples:

Junk food: a chocolate candy bar, a chocolate donut, or a piece
of chocolate cake

Healthier alternative:

A couple pieces of extra - shaded
chocolate (greater than 70 - 75 % cocoa sparkling one shot)...
this is higher in fiber and much less salutation than milk
chocolate or even dark chocolates that are less than 70% cocoa
content

Junk food: Deep fried and breaded chicken fingers and fries on
the side ( loads of revolting trans fats )

Healthier alternative:

Grilled chicken breast strips protect
peanut dipping relish and vegetables on the side

Junk food: a cheap rapidly - food burger on a refined refined
white bun

Healthier option:

A grass - fed burger ( also in CLA and omega
- 3 fats ) tuck away unfinished grass - fed cheese on a sprouted
habit gold

How about that for eating healthier hereafter civil very tasty
foods!

I hope that what you get out of this fiction is that
acknowledged is more to life than eating junk food, and eating
junk does not necessarily rapacious that you ' re " living a
little " as so many people say. Instead, I feel the opposite is
true.

Eat healthier and sense the natural flavors of real foods ( not
processed ) and you ' ll soon come across that you no longer
need junk food. Enjoy!

28 Days to a Healthier Heart-- A simple change each day can cut or reduce heart disease risk by 92%

Did you know that more than 41 million women in America have heart
disease? And that more women than men will die from it? In fact,
it’s the leading health problem that kills women (not cancer—a
common myth).

But the good news is that just five lifestyle guidelines—moderate
alcohol, a healthy diet, daily exercise, normal body weight, and
not smoking—can cut your heart attack risk by a whopping 92%,
according to a Swedish study of more than 24,000 women. Incorporating
just the first two into your routine cuts your risk by more than half.

The 28 tips that follow are designed to help you get started. Try
one a day for a month, and then stick with as many as you can for
the long haul.

Day 1: Drink Green Tea

This potent beverage contains several powerful antioxidants that
reduce cholesterol and may even lower blood pressure. To make a
day's supply, bring 20 ounces of water to a boil, drop in three
decaffeinated green tea bags, cover, and steep for 10 minutes.
Remove the tea bags, and refrigerate the tea. When cool, pour
the tea into a container, add ice if you like, and sip throughout
the day. http://hallosushant.blogspot.com/

Day 2: Scan Food Labels for Unhealthy Fat

Adults who read food labels and nutrition facts slash twice as many
calories from fat as those who don't give them a look, according to
one study. When it comes to heart health, that’s important: Don't
let fat exceed 30% percent of your calories. And more important,
make most of your fat the healthy monounsaturated (from olive oil,
nuts, dark chocolate, avocado) and polyunsaturated (from salmon,
flaxseed, walnuts) kinds.

Limit saturated fat intake to 7% of your total calories (for a
1,600-calorie diet, that’s about 12 g a day). And avoid trans
fats whenever possible; they should comprise 1% of your daily
calories, or less than 2 g a day. (Look for “hydrogenated” on
ingredient lists; trans fats are most often found in cookies,
crackers, baked goods, and other processed foods.) Both of these
fats raise levels of artery-clogging LDL cholesterol.

 http://hallosushant.blogspot.com/

Day 3: Cook Like an Italian

Use MUFA-rich olive oil in your food prep whenever possible. The
heart-healthy fat lowers “bad” LDL cholesterol and raises “good”
HDL cholesterol. Bonus: Olive oil is also rich in antioxidants,
which may help reduce the risk of cancer and other chronic diseases,
like Alzheimer’s.

Substitute olive oil for butter or margarine at the dinner table,
drizzle it on salads, and use it to replace vegetable oils in baking
wherever possible. Buy only cold-pressed, extra-virgin oil; it retains
more of the olive's heart-healthy antioxidants than other forms.

Day 4: Carve Out Time for Sleep

Every extra hour of sleep middle-aged adults can add to their nightly
average reduces their risk of coronary artery calcification, a cause
of heart disease, by 33%, according to a study reported in the Journal
of the American Medical Association. When you're even a little sleep
deprived, your body releases stress hormones that constrict arteries
and cause inflammation.

If you routinely wake up feeling tired or need an afternoon nap, then
you're probably sleep deprived. Most adults need 7 to 8 hours a night
to function well.

Day 5: Fiber Up Your Diet

Studies show that the more fiber you eat, the less likely you are to
have a heart attack. Load up on whole grain breads and cereals that
contain whole wheat, wheat bran, and oats. Toss beans into casseroles,
soups, and salads. Aim for at least 25 to 35 g of fiber a day.

Day 6: Feast on Fish http://hallosushant.blogspot.com/

Meat's saturated fat will clog your arteries. On the other hand, fish
such as salmon and anchovies are loaded with the omega-3 fatty acids
that will help your heart maintain a steady rhythm. Having even one
serving of fish high in omega-3s a week could reduce your risk of death
from a heart attack by 52%!

Day 7: Start Your Morning with Juice

Orange juice contains folic acid that helps lower your levels of
homocysteine, an amino acid linked to a higher heart attack risk.
Grape juice is loaded with flavonoids and resveratrol, both potent
antioxidants that may discourage red blood cells from clumping
together and forming an artery-blocking clot. Choose 100% fruit
juices to limit excess sugar.

Day 8: Make Room for Veggies

To get the 2½ cups that nutritionists recommend you eat daily, aim
to make veggies 50% of your meals. Extra points for picking
cruciferous vegetables such as kale, brussels sprouts, broccoli,
and cabbage, which are a gold mine of antioxidants and other
heart-saving phytochemicals.

 http://hallosushant.blogspot.com/

Day 9: Make Nuts Your Go-To Snack
Studies have found that those who eat more than 5 ounces of nuts a
week are one-third less likely to have either heart disease or a
heart attack. Just don't overdo it—nuts are high in fat and calories,
which can pack on pounds if you inhale them by the fistful.

Day 10: Walk for 20 Minutes a Day

Just 2.5 hours of exercise a week (that’s a little more than
20 minutes a day) could reduce heart attacks by one-third, prevent
285,000 deaths from heart disease in the United States alone, and
practically eliminate type 2 diabetes. Wow!

Day 11: Change Your Bread Spread

Olive oil is ideal for dunking your bread, but if you must use a
spread, pick one with cholesterol-lowering sterols. Adding 2 g of
these plant compounds to your daily diet can help lower your total
cholesterol by about 10%—often within 2 weeks, according to numerous
studies published in both American and European medical journals. That
may not sound like a substantial reduction, but it could translate to
a 20% lower risk of heart disease.

 http://hallosushant.blogspot.com/

Day 12: Stir in Flaxseed

Flaxseed is one of the most potent sources of heart-healthy omega-3
fats. Studies indicate that adding flaxseed to your diet can reduce
the development of heart disease by 46%, while helping to keep red
blood cells from clumping together and forming clots that can block
arteries. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of flaxseed a

Day on your yogurt,
oatmeal, cereal, or salad. Buy it preground, and keep it refrigerated.

Day 13: Start or End Your Day with Stretching

Flexibility may be key to heart health: Adults over age 40 who were
the most limber had 30% less stiffness in the arteries than less-bendy
participants in a recent Japanese study. Stretching for 10 to 15 minutes
a Day may keep arteries pliable; they may be affected by the elasticity
of the muscles and tissue that surround them. Try some gentle yoga moves
to improve your flexibility.

Day 14: Unwind with a Little Wine

You've probably heard that imbibing is good for you. Research
overwhelmingly shows that 1 to 3 ounces of alcohol a Day significantly
reduces your risk of a heart attack. Unless you have a problem with
alcohol, high blood pressure, or risk factors for breast or other
cancer, you can safely have one alcoholic drink a Day.

Indulge with dinner so you sip slowly. And remember that a full pour
in a large wine glass can easily double what’s considered a healthy
serving.

 http://hallosushant.blogspot.com/

Day 15: Swap in Soy

These plant proteins can help lower cholesterol when you eat them in
place of less healthy foods. (Think tofu instead of beef stir-fry or
edamame in lieu of dumplings).

It’s best, however, to limit processed soy (from chips and patties)
and avoid soy supplements. The problem with these is that we do not
always know the amount of phytoestrogens (plant chemicals in soy
that function in ways similar to the hormone estrogen) in them.
This can make its effects on the human body unpredictable. And
exposure to high concentrations of phytoestrogens could stimulate
the growth of cells that are responsive to estrogen, which include
many breast cancers.

Day 16: Cook with Garlic

Just one clove a Day—or 300 mg 3 times daily—reduces the risk of a
heart attack at least three ways: It discourages red blood cells
from sticking together and blocking your arteries, it reduces
arterial damage, and it discourages cholesterol from lining those
arteries and making them so narrow that blockages are likely.

Day 17: Spice Up Your Workout

The best exercise is one that you'll continue to do. So every day,
in addition to your regular workout, try something new just for
fun—hitting a tennis ball against the house, shooting hoops with
your kids, or dancing around your bedroom after work. If you find
something that you like, incorporate it into your daily workout.
Research shows that people who are active in little ways the entire
day burn more calories and are generally healthier than those who
exercise for 30 to 60 minutes and then sit at a computer, says
cardiologist and Prevention advisor Arthur Agatston, MD. http://hallosushant.blogspot.com/

Day 18: Stop Faking It

One of the biggest causes of stress is trying to live in a way that’s
not consistent with who you are. Ask yourself: Am I doing what I want
to do? Am I getting my needs met? Every day, run a reality check on
what you've done. When it says that your actions aren't true to the
kind of person you are, make sure you listen.

Spend time with people and on activities that make you feel happy
and challenged in a healthy way—not drained or burned out.

Day 19: Meditate for 5 Minutes

Practicing a form of meditation in which you focus awareness on the
present moment can reduce the effects of daily stressors. Ride out a
stress storm by simply closing your eyes and quietly focusing on your
breathing for 5 to 10 minutes.

Day 20: Get in Touch with Your Spiritual Side

Studies indicate that those with regular spiritual practices who meet
with a faith community—attending church or temple, for example—live
longer and better and are far less likely to have a heart attack. You
can still reap the benefits even if you can't attend regularly; just
getting involved socially, like volunteering at a food drive, can help.

 http://hallosushant.blogspot.com/

Day 21: Stay Connected

Strong ties to family, friends, and community reduce anxiety and
fight depression—two factors that increase your risk of a heart
attack. Make a lunch date with a friend you’ve been playing phone
tag with, dedicate at least 1 night a week for a sit-down family
dinner, or plan to visit your place of worship. Resolve to do one
of these things every day (yes, jetting off a quick thinking-of-you
e-mail counts).

Day 22: Take Vitamin D and Fish Oil

While research on multivitamins for preventing heart disease is mixed,
science does stand behind these two supplements. "The only dietary
supplement consistently shown in randomized clinical trials to work
against cardiac death is fish oil," says Dariush Mozaffarian, MD, DrPH,
an assistant professor medicine at Harvard Medical School. Omega-3 fatty
acids stabilize the heart's electrical system, lower blood pressure and
triglycerides, slow arterial plaque buildup, and ease systemic
inflammation. Fish oil was more successful than statins at preventing
death in heart failure patients, according to a recent Italian study.
“D” boasts a wide range of health benefits, heart health among them.
Recent studies show that too-little amounts can raise the risk of
peripheral arterial disease by 80% and increase the odds of developing
diabetes (a known heart disease risk factor).

Day 23: Do Something Sweet For Your Partner

There’s a lot of proof that marriage buffers you against heart disease,
but that may be true only if you’re happily coupled, says Agatston. One
study in the Annals of Behavioral Medicine found that spouses who reported
a lot of negative encounters with their partner had blood pressure that
was, on average, 5 points higher than that of single people. The emotional
stress of a difficult marriage typically causes adrenaline levels in the
blood to spike, raising blood pressure; it can also cause blood vessels to spasm.

To make sure your marriage doesn't go on autopilot, forge little ways
to stay connected all the time. If you do something nice today (like
paying an unexpected compliment or taking on a chore he normally
handles) chances are he'll reciprocate soon, which helps bolster
your bond. http://hallosushant.blogspot.com/

Day 24: Indulge with Dark Chocolate

Cap off your day with a nibble of this healthy treat. Dark varieties
contain flavonoids, antioxidants that make blood vessels more elastic.
In one study, 18% of patients who ate it every day saw blood pressure
dip. Have 1/2 ounce (at least 70% cocoa) daily.

Day 25: Steer Clear of Secondhand Smoke

Got friends or coworkers who smoke socially? Stay away when they light
up and your heart will thank you. The effects on the cardiovascular
system due to passive smoking are, on average, 80 to 90% as great as
those due to active smoking, research shows. Even brief (minutes or
hours) exposure to secondhand smoke can have cardiovascular effects
nearly as great as long-term active smoking.

 http://hallosushant.blogspot.com/

Day 26: Go Bananas

To lower your blood pressure, don't just eat less sodium. You should
also increase your potassium intake, as it speeds up the body's sodium
excretion, say researchers at the Hypertension Institute of Nashville.
Lead author Mark Houston, MD, says most Americans consume more sodium
than potassium, but it should be the other way around. Some popular
potassium-rich foods to help fix this: baked potatoes, tomato paste,
lima beans, yogurt, cantaloupe, and bananas.

Day 27: Cut Back on Sugar

People who consume more than 74 g of added fructose a day (that’s two
to three sweetened soft drinks) are 87% more likely to have severely
elevated blood pressure than those who get less, according to a recent
study. Researchers believe excess fructose may reduce the production of
nitric oxide, a gas that helps blood vessels relax and dilate.

To cut your intake, watch out for the worst offenders: drinks and baked
goods. Drink seltzer in place of soda, or eat oatmeal with raisins and
cinnamon instead of an oatmeal raisin cookie.

Day 28: Laugh at Yourself

When researchers from the University of Maryland Medical Center in
Baltimore tested the "humor quotient" of 300 people, they found that
those with heart disease were 40% less likely to laugh at the gaffes,
mix-ups, and irritations of everyday life than those without
cardiovascular problems.

"Laughter is no substitute for eating properly, exercising, and
controlling blood pressure and cholesterol levels with medication
if need be," says study author Michael Miller, MD, director of the
university's Center for Preventive Cardiology. "But enjoying a few
laughs every day couldn't hurt, and our research suggests that it
might help your heart health."

Cooking Oil Options: Do you use a lot of monounsaturated olive oil while cooking? What other oils that you can try that are both flavorful and good for your heart? Here is the list of all the healthy cooking Oils

Avocado oil: Pressed from the fleshy pulp surrounding the avocado pit,
this nutty-flavored oil, like olive oil, is rich in monounsaturated
fats.  http://hallosushant.blogspot.com/

It has a high smoke point, which makes it good for sauteing or
stir-frying fish, chicken, or vegetables. It's also delicious in
vinaigrette dressings or drizzled over vegetables.  http://hallosushant.blogspot.com/

Grapeseed oil: Extracted from the seeds of grapes, and typically imported
from France, Italy, or Switzerland, this oil also has a high smoke point,
which makes it good for sautéing or stir-frying. It is equally delicious
in salad dressings.   http://hallosushant.blogspot.com/

.

Some of the imported oils have a rather grape-y flavor,
but many are quite bland or even nutty tasting. Try a few to see what you
like best.  http://hallosushant.blogspot.com/

Nut oils: The good thing about nut oils, such as almond, hazelnut,
macadamia, peanut, pecan, pistachio, and walnut oils, is that they
provide the same monounsaturated fats that are found in the nuts
themselves (but they don't contain the fiber).   http://hallosushant.blogspot.com/
