10 tips for guaranteed weight loss that will set your weight straight, and help you adopt some really healthy, weight-friendly habits for life.

Decide how much weight you need to lose - Most people start their weight loss journey by claiming to be xyz kilos overweight. This isn't a healthy way to project or aim for weight loss. Calculate your desired weight against your height by using reliable methods like the BMI, and set a healthy weight loss target. This is often half the battle won.

Time management - This is quite often overlooked. Decide which part of your day will be dedicated to exercise, when in the week you will stock up on groceries, and when you will do the cooking - all within your current work and home life routine. If you don't do this now, your days will be rushed and unplanned, and you won't be able to sustain your weight loss efforts.

Stock your kitchen - Keep your house well-stocked with fruits, vegetables, healthy meats, grains, cereals, spices, and flavourers. Follow our tricks to healthy cooking, cooking vegetables for the week, and low-fat cooking posts to understand how best you can stock your kitchen with healthy and delicious ingredients. All of this will go into helping the next step - cooking healthy meals at home.

Eat healthy homecooked meals - Whether it's you who's cooking, a family member, or house help, ensure that every one practises healthy cooking methods, and ingredients. Ask any person who's lost weight the healthy way, and you will always hear about how healthy homecooked meals were a big reason behind it. Use less oil, low salt, fresh produce, and you'll start seeing results in no time.

Start a cardio + weights workout - A healthy weight loss programme is incomplete without a good exercise routine, and weight training mixed with cardio is the best way to lose weight. Of course, variations and forms exist, but any workout that stresses on muscle tone and increased heart rate will always help you lose weight and keep it off. You can either start a home workout today, or rely on gyms for fitness training.

Alter your snacking habits - At Health Me Up, we have several healthy snacking ideas for you. Set those French fries aside, skip that aerated drink, and ban those unhealthy deep fried samosas. Explore the healthy snack world and you will find several appetisers, party snacks, movie snacks and meal accompaniments that'll satisfy every craving of yours.

Have at least one active hobby - It isn't sufficient to rely on just 30 to 60 minutes of physical activity per day. Moving from bed to office chair, and back to bed, isn't a healthy way to live. Buy a motion sensor gaming console that lets you enjoy social games with friends and family, plan weekend trips, clean your house once a week, dance, play sports, the list is endless. Get out of the coffee shop and dining table rut, and you'll have fun along with the healthy weight loss.

Find a solution to combat stress - As we pointed out in our post about stress and weight loss, stress is always detrimental to healthy weight loss in the long run. Find ways to combat stress and you'll soon realise that your diet and exercise aren't sabotaged anymore, and that you truly do see results. Look at yoga, meditation, deep breathing exercises, or simple hobbies like reading to fight stress.

Drink plenty of water - You've known that your body relies heavily on water for all important bodily functions, and yet you skimp on drinking adequate quantities of water every day. Well, it's time to stop that. Check out some exciting ways to make water interesting and you'll be packing it away in no time. Do not forget to carry a water bottle to your workout, and take a few sips after every 2-3 minutes of exercise.

Plan healthy vacations - Why go all the way with healthy weight loss, when one tiny vacation will just come along and topple it all? Healthy vacations aren't impossible. Take a look at how you can eat smart on a holiday, and then at bodyweight workouts that you can carry with you wherever you go, to understand how to holiday right. Above all, remember that these are lifelong habits that'll help you stay fit forever and not short term weight loss quickfixes.

Diet fizzy drinks and other artificially sweetened beverages do not cause diabetes

A study has found that diet fizzy drinks and other artificially sweetened beverages do not cause diabetes, as had previously been thought.

Researchers at Harvard University said that while regular soda and other sugary drinks can increase a person's risk of diabetes, drinking artificially sweetened soft drinks, coffee or tea will not.

Simple Weight Loss Solutions for Moms

There are some great diet plans on the market, but they all require a total and complete overhaul of your life starting now. What mom has time to organize something like that especially when the rest of family is likely to rebel?
Fortunately there is an easy solution to losing weight; a solution that requires small changes over time that adds up to significant weight loss. It might take a little longer to reach your goal weight, but the journey will be easier, smoother and steadier.
Each of the tips given below should be implemented one at a time. Once one has become "habit", you can add the next. You can make these changes daily although it would be better if you spread them out so you have time to incorporate one change before adding a new one. The goal is make tiny, simple changes that you barely feel.
1. Stop drinking calories. This means switching from sugary colas to diet. Swapping mochas for skinny lattes with sugar free vanilla. Drink skim milk instead of whole (you can transition to low fat first). Stop drinking juice (eat fruit instead). The only except is V-8 tomato-based drink or the diet juice. The best switch is to substitute drinks to quench thirst (as opposed to those you have with a meal) with water. By swapping high calorie sodas and other drinks with diet and low calorie options you'll save hundreds of calories a day without sacrificing your thirst.
2. Get moving. Exercise isn't just about losing weight; it's about keeping the body working right. The older you get, the less efficient your body can get especially if you don't move it. Life becomes very small if you have limited mobility. You don't have to join a gym or run a marathon though. Bundle the kids up and go outside. Play tag or hide-n-seek with them. If your child is a baby, put them in a stroller or better yet a baby pack and go for a walk or hike. Or wait until your spouse is home and go for a walk on your own. It will clear your head and give you time away from it all. Consider taking a class... a dance class, tennis lesson...whatever sounds fun to you.
3. Switch to Whole Grain. It's really important to make sure the package says "Whole" grain or wheat. Multi-grain is not the same. Whole grains have all the great stuff that keeps you healthy, but also the fiber that fills you up. Instead of white bread, eat whole wheat. You can get whole grain in rice, cereal, bagels, English muffins, etc. They are better for you, have all the good carbs, and will help you feel fuller faster.
4. Discover the size of a serving and stick to it. One of the biggest problems contributing to weight issues in the US is that servings are getting bigger or that people don't pay attention to a serving. Did you know a serving of cereal is anywhere from 1/2 to 1 cup? Most people fill the whole bowl (2 cups). Check labels to learn what a serving size is and compare it to what you'd normally eat. You'll likely discover you've eaten two servings even before you have seconds.
5. Fill up with good stuff. Snacking is my biggest problem. I'm always hungry after dinner. Instead of having high calorie, high sugar snacks, choose healthy options like air popped popcorn (spray with Pam and sprinkle popcorn seasoning). It's filling and has lots of fiber. Other options are a handful of almonds, a tablespoon of peanut butter in celery or an apple, vanilla yogurt, or frozen berries.
6. Choose lower calorie goodies. I still eat chocolate (daily), but I limit it to 150 calories. That's 1 Peppermint Patty or 2 squares of Lindt 70% chocolate. I buy low fat, no-sugar ice cream that has up to half the fat and calories. You can have treats, but you have to be able to limit the amount you eat.
These are just a handful of easy changes even a busy mom can make to lose weight and improve health.

Dieting To Stay Fit and loose weight

Obesity is a problem which is on the increase in the United
States. Even though many people are not seem obese, they may
still be overweight. Many people attempt to lose weight with
diet, but every attempt proves to be a failure on their part.
They fail because they are ignorant of the key to dieting
success. Their approach to dieting is all wrong.

Many people view their diet as purely physical in nature. They
think that if they diet they will eat less food and it will help
them to loose their weight and they will stay thin from then on.
But overeating and the ability to stick to a restrictive diet is
not a physical problem. It is a mental and emotional problem. So
it is better that you exercise your body and mind together so
that you keep fit.

The importance to dieting is to find a diet to which you can
stick. You have to find a dieting habit which would work for
you. After you find the diet which fits you, you have to be
mentally committed to it, no matter whatever happens. The key to
dieting success is all in your hands and in your mind. Make up
your mind and success will be yours. It truly is all in your
mind and your key to dieting success.

Tips for successful dieting and staying fit.

• Make it a habit to walk or go for cycling for 30 minutes
every day.
• Consume a fruit every day in your empty stomach.
• Take in lots of vegetables with your lunch.
• Avoid snacks and fast foods.
• You have to eat once in three hours.

Dieting means not only losing body weight, but also being
healthy and fit. To loose weight means to burn more calories
than you take in.

Understand these six simple steps to dieting:

• You should keep track of the amount of calories that you take
in each day. Try to count the calories in what ever you eat or
even drink. Put it down in black and white.

• At the end of the day you should total all the calories that
you had through out the day. Be sincere to your self and do the
totaling.

• Just try to reduce the calorie intake with a standard
measure. This standard depends on your capacity and your kind of
job that you would be doing every day.

• Try to have 5 small meals a day. Do not go in for three big
meals in a day. Nor should you eat through out the day. Eat
every 3 hours so that your metabolism speeds up and you can
loose your weight.

• Workouts related to cardio are also important part of weight
loss. In addition to keeping a watch on your dieting you should
also do some work outs to burn your calories.

• Finally at the end of the week weight yourself. If there has
been a change then stick to the same routine. This means that
your body has adapted to the changes well.

Foundation For A Healthy Diet.

Good Nutrition and Healthy Diet go hand in hand. With the
increase in Heart Disease, Type 2 Diabetes, Osteoporosis and
others, caused by our decline in exercise and dependence on
processed and fast foods, its time we get back in shape. The
place to start is with what we put in our mouths.
To begin with here are some tips on eating smart;

Chew Your Food Well. There are digestive enzymes in our mouths
that help to begin the digestion process of our food. By eating
slowly and chewing well we aid those enzymes in doing their
work.

Learn When to Stop. It takes a few minutes for the brain to get
the message that we have had enough food. By eating more slowly
we will know sooner when we are full and avoid over eating and
feeling like a stuffed turkey later.

Start the Day Well. By eating a good, well balanced meal in the
morning we will be more energetic and more alert. We need to eat
well in the morning and the afternoon and cut back on the amount
and the `heaviness' of the food we eat in the evening. This
gives our body a chance to burn off the calories and begin to
digest the food we have eaten.

To be able to plan a healthy diet we need to understand that
good nutrition benefits us both physically and mentally. The
food we eat is meant to provide us with the energy we need, the
ability to sleep well and should provide our body with all other
needs. We need good nutrition for a healthy heart, strong bones
and the energy to keep our mind active and alert.

What A Healthy Diet Should Consist Of.

Carbohydrates are the body's main energy source. Complex
Carbohydrates include legumes, grains, potatoes, peas and corn.
Simple carbohydrates are found in fruit, milk, candy and
processed sugars.

A Healthy diet should emphasize Complex Carbohydrates,
especially whole grains, beans, fruit and low fat milk and dairy
products. Limit simple carbs in the form of processed sugar,
candy and sodas.

Protein is essential to life. Proteins are found in many plant
foods such as legumes, nuts and seeds, meat, poultry, seafood
and dairy products.

A Healthy diet should limit red meat and emphasize legumes,
poultry, seafood and low fat dairy products.

Fats help absorb essential vitamins and are a source of energy.
On the down side they are twice as high in calories as
carbohydrates and protein. Too much saturated and Trans fat can
increase cholesterol levels.

A Healthy diet limits fats and is picky about their sources.
Recommended sources of fat are nuts and olive oil, canola oil or
nut oils for cooking.

Saturated Fat is mostly found in red meat, poultry, butter,
whole milk, coconut oil, palm oil and most tropical oils. They
are the main dietary reason for high cholesterol.

A Healthy diet limits amounts and sources of saturated fat.
Meat and poultry can be cooked to limit the amount of fat.

Trans Fat is found in crackers, cookies, cakes, doughnuts,
French fries, shortening and some margarine.

A Healthy diet includes less than 2 grams trans fat!

Cholesterol is important for cell health but is also the main
substance in the plaque that can develop in arteries. Our body
makes its own Cholesterol. It is found in meat, poultry,
seafood, eggs, milk and butter.

A Healthy diet limits the intake of foods high in Cholesterol.

Fiber, there are two kinds;

Insoluble fiber can help prevent constipation and is found in
vegetables, wheat bran and whole grains.

Soluble fiber helps improve cholesterol and blood sugar levels
and is found in oats, dried beans, apples and oranges.

A Healthy diet includes plenty to maintain a healthy colon.

Sodium is necessary for maintaining fluid balance and
contraction and relaxation of muscles. Too much, however is
harmful. Sodium is found in most prepared, processed food,
canned vegetables, soup, lunch meat and frozen foods.

A Healthy diet limits the intake of sodium by not adding salt
to food at the dinner table and including more fresh vegetables.

Since there is no one diet plan that is just right for every
person, if we follow the simple guidelines of eating more fresh
fruits and vegetables, limiting the amount of fast food and
convenience foods we intake and increase our activity level we
will go a long way towards living a healthier, happier life.

What is the Hoodia Diet?

So you are looking into trying a new trendy diet? I mean there
are tons of them out there to chose from, right? There aren't
many that haven't been tried. Well this one you may not have
even heard of. How does cactus sound for a diet? This new
product called Hoodia is appetite suppressant.

They say that it is not the tastiest of choices. It looks like
a cucumber and grows in dry heat. They also say that it can take
as much as five to seven years before it can truly develop. This
plant actually grows in Africa in the Kalahari desert. Also it
grows in Botswana, Namibia and Angola.

In ancient days they would peel the plant and eat it to curb
your appetite. There are about twenty different kinds of Hoodia
Gordonii plants. Significantly enough there is a small molecule
that actually makes this seemingly legit. With all of the diets
going on, who knows? You always must be skeptical when trying
these diets. They are always so wishy washy and are good about
making you feel like you are really going to lose the weight.

It is found in a diet pill called Trimspa and can come in the
form of a capsule, powder, liquid and even tea. Pfizer bought it
in 1998 for 21 million. If you are willing to give it a go, you
may or may not get results that you want.

Weigh all of the pro's and con's about it. How much does it
cost? Are there others who have tried it and gained results by
it? Look for testimonies and the results of others. You have a
right to be skeptical. There is a lot of hoopla going on about
these diets and you could very well be wasting not only your
time but your money as well.

Sometimes going natural is the best thing to do. Do you want to
suppress hunger? There are all sorts of pills and potions out
there that will suppress your hunger. That should give you
something to ponder. I mean they say don't knock it until you
try it. I say be skeptical. It's your health and your money!

This is not to say that Hoodia will not work. Far from that,
many people around the world have used Hoodia to help appetite
suppression and lost weight. The key to all this however is to
realise that a good exercise and diet plan in also a big part of
the puzzle. Most people hate calorie counting as it can get very
cumbersome and as a result give in to their hunger.

If you decide to take Hoodia, you should consult your doctor,
just like if you started any other medication. There are no
studies to show that Hoodia has side effects but you can never
take too many precautions. It is also important to point out
that pregnant women should not take Hoodia. Be sure to check out
more articles about hoodia on the website listed below.

More Practicable Cheaters Diet

Cheaters diet won't flunk us in Fitness 101 when caught. It
will even improve our dieting efforts. In fact, cheaters diet
makes rigid dieting a delight and an adventure.

Often, cheating is bad, but not if we want to stay on a diet
longer. Cheating actually helps most dieters stay on a weight
loss program longer than others on extra rigid ones. So, here's
the hot cheaters diet which makes it easier to stay on the
regular programme.

Fitness and diet gurus would probably frown at the idea but
more people are discovering the effectiveness of cheaters diet.
The idea is to diet 5 days a week and then give ourselves a
2-day break when we eat what we want reasonably. Here are some
reasons why.

First, it's a psychological thing, a reward incentive to make
the program always attractive. We worked hard 5 days, 3 meals a
day, to stick to a strict diet. Weekends are apt opportunities
to reward ourselves for a job well done. This keeps us
interested and glued to the diet through the week. Cheaters diet
should probably be renamed Rewarded diet.

Some avoid weekends as cheat days. They figure weekends enable
them to go out with friends and thus eating tends to be
overdone. So they choose 2 week days instead of weekends as
cheat days. They think this helps them more with their cheaters
diet as eating spree is more subdued when done alone or with
fewer company.

Second, cheaters diet helps our metabolism revive to normal
levels when a controlled surge of calories is given our bodies.
Remember that calorie reduction in our diet also reduces
metabolism rate. This is what causes stored fats in the body
because less fat burning takes place. This is aggravated when we
couple diet with exercise. It gets to a point when exercise
burns muscles instead of fats.

Thus, giving ourselves a break two days a week with
smorgasbords within reasonable amounts helps perk up metabolism
to keep our bodies burning fats. But remember, these eating
sprees should also be regulated and kept within reasonable
bounds. This is a good and feasible cheaters diet which makes it
mucg easier to survive your slimming program.

And take care to cheat for only 2 days. Don't go beyond this
limit or else cheaters diet becomes fools diet and it certainly
won't work. And if we go for foods included in popular
Mediterranean diet cheaters diet becomes even more effective.
The idea is to avoid too much fats and calories even on cheat
days. Also, it would do well to remember that fats and meats
take from 48 to 72 hours to completely digest.

And anyway, most dieters cheat now and then - how can you not
with the temptations floating around everywhere in today's day
and time. So why not stop torturing yourself with super strict
and almost impossible diets and adopt a cheaters diet to make
our cheats worthwhile and beneficial while dieting?

Also, choose liquidvegetable oils like sesame, sunflower and olive. Make saladeating a habit. Let your breakfast be ruled by vegetables andfruits.
The paths to lower cholesterol are many, and you need to chooseyour own path.
